Health and Safety at Work

Under the Health and Safety Work Act 1974, the primary responsibility lies with the employer. Every employer must ensure that so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all their employees. All employees are also responsible for their own health and safety and others at work.

This course is suitable for the whole dental team.

Health and Safety at Work

Aim:

This course aims to build awareness and knowledge of the Health and Safety Work Act 1974 and to support legislation and its relation to employers and employees.

The objective of this e-learning course is to provide training in line with the GDC’s Development Outcome: C – Maintenance and development of knowledge and skill within your field(s) of practice.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, all candidates will be able to:

  • Define safety and understand why it is important.
  • Understand the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and how it relates to you in the workplace.
  • Understand the causes of accidents and the latest statistics.
  • Understand the Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (Amended 2013) RIDDOR.
  • Identify workplace hazards and carry out risk assessments.
  • Understand the importance of Provision & Use of Work Equipment 1998 (PUWER).
  • Understand the importance of the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Understand the Display Screen Equipment Regulations 2002.
  • Understand manual handling, the dos and don’ts.
  • Understand the COSHH Regulations 2002.
  • Identify carcinogens in the workplace and measures required to deal with these substances.
