Registered Manager: How to register with the CQC
It is a legal requirement under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 for all dental practices to be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
There are 3 types of CQC registration:
- Individual
- Partnership or
- Organisation.
This type of registration is called the legal entity and it is essential that all practices are registered as the correct legal entity.
All dental practices that are registered with the CQC are required to have a Registered Manager.
The only exception is where the service provider (usually the practice principal or the practice owner i.e. the legal entity) is an individual (i.e. not part of a partnership and not a limited company) who manages the service the practice provides on a day-to-day basis and who has the necessary skills and experience to do this.
All other practices require a Registered Manager.
This course is aimed at assisting completely new Registered Managers with completing their CQC Registered Manager’s Application in a dental practice that is currently registered with the CQC.

Aim:
The aim of this course is to provide advice and guidance to individuals who wish to apply to become the Registered Manager of a dental practice that is already registered with the CQC.
The objectives of the course are to provide guidance on:
- The role and responsibilities of the Registered Manager
- Completing the CQC countersigned enhanced DBS check
- The Registered Manager application process
- The Registered Manager’s interview
- Timelines for processing the Registered Manager application.
The course provides 30 minutes of verifiable CPD.
