The Safe Management of Healthcare Waste HTM 07-01

Dental practices produce a wide range of hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste and it’s very important for all members of the dental team to be trained in how all the different waste streams should be managed. This is even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The requirements for handling infectious and potentially infectious clinical waste need to take account of the fact that now, more than ever all risks must be reduced as far as possible for the protection of clinicians, your teams, your patients, and the public.

This course is relevant to the requirements for managing healthcare waste safely that are in place in June 2020 and will be updated as infection rates and death rates fall, and the UK revises its alert level down.

The aim of this course is to provide you with the knowledge to safely manage hazardous waste within your practice following the Health Technical Memorandum 07-01 guidelines.

During this course you will learn:

  • The regulatory requirements for handling hazardous waste.
  • How to reduce the risk of infection when handling hazardous waste.
  • How to segregate and dispose of contaminated waste.
  • The correct way to store and transport hazardous waste.

This course provides 60 minutes of ECPD.
