You may have heard that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is changing its approach to regulating dental practices in England. Ahead of more changes that will happen next year, they have adapted their processes and a transitional approach to monitoring services has been implemented. This approach is called the Transitional Monitoring Approach (TMA).

Emergency Support Framework

During the early part of the pandemic, the CQC conducted telephone calls with dental practices under their Emergency Support Framework (ESF).

Transitional Monitoring Approach (TMA)

In the continued absence of face to face inspections which are still (mostly) suspended for the time being, the CQC utilises phone calls and technology solutions such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams to contact practices to seek reassurance that practices are providing care that is safe and effective, that they are caring and responsive to the needs of patients and their team members and that they are well-led. The KLOEs (Key lines of enquiry) have been adapted to be relevant during these very difficult times.

At Apolline we have put together a list of things to include when speaking to the CQC inspector. You should ensure that your responses reflect what happens in your practice and any responses you give should be verifiable as the inspector may ask for evidence.

You can read more about this on the CQC website links:
